Trend structure

Confirmed swings classified as higher highs and lows, lower highs and lows, or range.

The sequence of confirmed swing highs and lows is classified as a state: higher highs with higher lows, lower highs with lower lows, or range. A missing swing side is silence — the rule does not guess a trend.

Knowable only once the swing that completed the last-two-highs plus last-two-lows reading has been confirmed. A wick or an unconfirmed pivot does not count.

This is not a swing break and not a direction change. Those are events. Trend structure is the running classification of the pivot sequence.

On the chart the newest classified high is named above its candle (HH, LH, or equal) and the newest classified low below it (HL, LL, or equal). There is no zone around the four pivots.

Names

Neutral: Trend structure / Trendstruktur. ICT: Market Structure, short MS (HH/HL or LH/LL).

Layers

External (default) is the main structure: every confirmed swing, classified from the last two highs and last two lows. Internal is the smaller swings that print strictly inside that window — same rule, one level down. A confirmed swing through either edge of the window resets the internal book; it does not rewrite earlier pivots. Inside swings still update the external reading, so a trend can reverse (lower lows and lower highs after a bullish window, and the mirror) without taking the opposite edge. Swings confirmed on the same close are one batch. This is not a second lookback.

Settings

Which swings (default external) chooses the envelope. Equal tolerance (default 0) treats two prices as equal when their relative distance is within that fraction — an equal high or low is range, not a trend. A stored value below zero is read as 0 (exact match only). Swing method defaults to N-bar fractal with lookback 3. Williams fractal and ZigZag are available too.
