Impulse zone

Last opposing candle before an impulse.

After a strong impulse, the last opposing candle before it marks a zone, high to low of that candle. Price often comes back to it later. A candle that closed where it opened has no side and is skipped — it is never the origin of a zone.

Knowable at the close of the impulse candle. The zone ends at whichever comes first and remembers which: price came back (mitigation), or a close landed beyond the far edge (break). If price came back first and the zone held, a later close beyond the far edge is still recorded on the zone as the bar it was broken on. Those endings feed Held zone and Broken impulse zone — the same zone can be a held zone first and a broken one later, one after the other, never both at once.

Settings

Minimum impulse is the same threshold Impulse candle uses, and it offers the same choice: Threshold measured against reads it either as a fraction of close (Price, default 0.0012) or as a multiple of the median candle range over the last reference window candles (Bar range, default 1.2 over 20 candles). The second one keeps its meaning when you switch timeframe — with the fixed fraction the hourly chart shows 91 zones where the 15-minute one shows 35, against 25 and 38 with the range.

Search window looks that many bars back for the opposing candle (default 8).

Whether a used-up zone stays on the chart (greyed out) or vanishes is at the top of the Concepts panel, for every zone.
