Mat Hold

A hold beyond the first close, a shallow pullback, then a new close.

A strong up body, a small bar that holds at or beyond that close, then a shallow pullback that does not give the first body back, then a close that continues the rally.

Bullish only. Mat Hold is the bullish continuation, and the downside shape has no established name of its own — so we do not ship one. It used to be marked here anyway, eight times on 300 candles, and every one of those eight was an artefact of the missing upper bound below rather than a pattern.

The pullback is bounded on both sides: the middle bars stay above the first candle’s open and below its high. Without the upper bound a vertical continuation also counts as a “shallow pullback” — that alone made the pattern fire 14 times in 300 candles instead of once.

Textbook versions gap the hold bar. On perpetual futures the hold is the close location — every bar already opens at the prior close. Knowable on the last close. An event — no end.
